She sits in silence,
waiting for the rain
and wonders why the
tears refuse to fall
perhaps her heart
has built a solid wall
transmits no weeping
message to her brain
won’t let her cry
despite the hurt and pain
the cold winds
blowing through an empty hall
so dry and harsh
when there should be a squall.
If love is like a
battle then it’s lost
she’s trapped away
for everafter’s years
a prisoner of war in
heartbreak jail
she paid the price
of love – her soul the cost
rewarded with a
soggy cheque of tears
but drops of rain no
longer are for sale.
In darkness she
looks deep inside to see
this nothing that
has grown and taken hold
just yesterday a
treasure trove of gold
now happiness has
gone from memory
her sadness locked
inside without a key
with only storm
cloud stories to be told
she shivers not from
crying but from cold.
In mesmerizing
trance she waits to cry
it seems her soul
has died and gone away
and nothing seems to
matter any more
if only he had
stopped to say goodbye
and gave her half a
chance the words to say
he didn’t even
glance back at the door.
