Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

a stonnet (a sonnet that tells a well-known story)

Back to Main Stonnets Index

Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are?
Up above the world so high , like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are?

The light rays bend in atmospheric dance

they twinkle in Alaska, and in France

from anywhere on Earth - up in the sky

the people see you wink your little eye.

Some think of you as diamonds, shining, nice

I wonder if you're merely gas and ice

or are you playing, some galactic pawn

emerging on some planet, as their dawn?

Reveal yourself to me is what I ask

I wish to see behind your cosmic mask

to understand this light refractory

that forms the center of our galaxy.

Please twinkle on, my star, stay ever bright

and shine on through the darkness every night.
