A dolphin saw the
whaling ship and shook his pointy head
"You'd think they'd
put their millions into tuna boats instead -
it's typical of
humans, they're so greedy, crass and crude,
not smart enough to
recognize what is and isn't food.
"I've seen them
hunting sharks and throwing all away but fins,
it's such a waste,
and surely they'll be punished for these sins,
God gave them
salmon, mackerel, and sardines to be canned,
why would they want
a tough old whale? I'll never understand.
"The shorelines now
are ruined, they have plundered with no care,
to keep a food chain
going, one must leave the breeders there,
but no, they take
them all, and never stop to count the cost,
the only time they
think is when they see a species lost.
"Two hundred
creatures now extinct, how many more will go?
Don't bother asking
humans, they don't seem to want to know,
the dollar is the
only thing they listen to these days,
they won't embrace a
new idea unless they're sure it pays.
"They aren't content
to rape the land, they'll kill the ocean, too,
when all the whales
are dead and gone I wonder what they'll do?
Will porpoises and
dolphins be the next ones on the list?
I fear it soon will
come to pass, if current trends persist."
