If my love were an
instrument, and I musician bold,
I’d play her as a
lute, in dulcet songs;
Her soul the grace
and eloquence of minstrels’ days of old
And in those times a
love like ours belongs.
Or mayhap a piano,
with her skin of ivory,
I’d hear her heart
beat as a metronome;
And feel my fingers
ringing out the sweetest symphony,
Our music never
written in a tome.
Yet if she were a
violin, her strings I’d strum in awe,
A master craftsman
playing soft and coy;
My bow would play
the purest sounds of heaven’s heights and more,
And Stradivarius
would weep with joy.
A hallowed harp
would suit her well, exquisite and unique,
Her sighs arpeggios
in passion’s key;
I’d hold her to my
breast, play quavers lilting true and sleek,
Together we’d create
a symphony.
If my love were a
flute I’d breathe the melodies of Pan,
Each time my lips
touched hers: a masterpiece;
A serenade of woman
keeping harmony with man,
May our love’s opus
dolce never cease.
