The Martians hovered there, a blue light glaring,

I saw them as I worked my plough and team,

the horses walked away while I was staring,

then suddenly I felt the tractor beam.

I had no choice, I'm old and tired and careworn,

the beam was like a white magnetic shaft.

I tried to stay on Earth but soon was airborne,

and flying in a beeline to their craft.

Inside their ship I saw a huge computer,

two Martians at the keyboard waved to me,

they pressed some buttons, then I heard a hooter,

a robot waiter brought a pot of tea.

They made me eat a rather funny sandwich,

the bread was made from greenish Martian dough,

I swallowed it and understood their language,

the biggest Martian smiled and said: "Hello!"

I gulped some tea and stammered out a greeting,

deciding I should try a simple bluff,

I asked them: "What's the purpose of this meeting?"

The smallest said: "We want to know some stuff.

"There's something that has caused us some confusion,

your planet's on the brink of total loss,

as every day you push out more pollution,

yet no-one seems to really give a toss!"

The big one said: "You know the situation,

yet take no action, let your planet bleed,

but why would man allow such decimation?"

I hung my head and sadly answered: "Greed."

"We thought as much," the small one said, quite teary,

"we needed confirmation of the fact,

and now that you have verified our theory

we have no choice at all - we have to act."

"You men," the big one stated, "live for money,

you never give a thought for things you spoil,

you took a world that ran with milk and honey,

and killed it in your wicked lust for oil.

"And now you look to sky for further glory,

another virgin planet to explore,

the future will relate the same old story,

you never have enough - it's always more!"

They set me back on Earth and vanished Marswards,

but left no doubts that they will soon attack,

I look towards the sky and hear their last words:

"Farewell for now - don't worry - We'll be Back!"
