RHUPUNT
The rhupunt is a Welsh form which
has quite a complex set of rules which can be simplified - it is
a poem with a rhyming scheme aaab, cccb, dddb, eeeb etc but the
second rhyme can be internal.
A new Rhupunt?
May I be blunt?
How could I shunt
The proper word?
To follow rules
Not taught in
schools
Like haunted ghouls
Is quite absurd.
This rhyming scheme
To some may seem
A poet’s dream
But they have
erred.
A tetra line
Or two is fine
Like sweet red wine
But try a third!
The constant rhyme
Time after time
Makes one a mime
A wordless nerd.
You stare to space
And try to place
And interlace
What you have
heard.
You write it wrong,
One word too long,
“His head!” the
song
the wrath incurred.
This doleful form
Is not my norm,
I’m feeling warm
My tongue is
slurred.
If Welsh is in
Then I must sin
I’ll simply grin,
Fly like a bird.
A style that’s free
Is more for me,
So let me be
Lest I get burred.
