RAPUNZEL

a stonnet (a sonnet that tells a well-known story)

Back to Main Stonnets Index

The Father jumps the fence to steal some greens

coz pregnant wife has cravings for some salads

then next we see Rapunzel in her teens

imprisoned in a tower, singing ballads.

The Prince turns up and hears her saddened tunes

then hears the password, climbs her hairy ladder

the witch finds out and sends her to the dunes

but first she cuts her locks off - then gets madder...

She hears: "Rapunzel, please let down your hair"

he climbs and finds the hag - she sends him blind,

he wanders round for years - a dark nightmare

then hears the song, and true love treats him kind.

Rapunzel's tears of joy restore his sight,

they have two kids and everything's all right.
