The word flew round the village, all the ladies said a prayer,

a tiny boy and girl had lost their way,

the wilderness had claimed them, they were wandering somewhere,

poor Freddie Mac and little Fannie Mae.

An epic mission planned, the men folk asked to show their love,

to find these kids and bring them safely back,

one hero stood above the rest, and swore to God above,

he’d rescue Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The mutterings grew loud as people slowly realized,

they had to save these babies, come what may,

so innocent and fragile – they were both politicized,

young Freddie Mac and pretty Fannie Mae.

Two babes who needed nurturing, through good times and the bad,

by parents who would shield them from the flak,

neglected by their Mother, and abandoned by their Dad,

poor little Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Good-hearted, like two angels, much too young to calculate,

as others had another game to play,

the rug was pulled, as experts juggled with the interest rate,

deserting Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

That hero’s out there – everybody wishes him God speed,

he’s searching in a fiscal cul-de-sac,

economies are run by those with manifests of greed,

so goodbye Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
