We've bought
a one-way ticket - no way back
the Earth
Express has cattle on the track
but spins
too fast to watch the way ahead
the
engineers have hearts of oily black.
Unsatisfied
with forests lying dead
they wish to
euthanize the ocean bed
destroy the
colored veils of coral lace
to pump more
profit - keep their coffers fed.
As Earth
depletes they turn to outer space
I see the
hidden greed behind the race
to find
another planet to despoil
they'll ply
their wasteful habits anyplace.
As summer
brings another record boil
and farmers
see a pittance for their toil
the stock
exchange grows rich, the banks replete
the
blackened profits from their precious oil.
While
charities go begging in the street
to simply
give a child enough to eat
the salaries
flow over to obscene
but only for
executive elite.
When even
riches will not buy the air
and every
thing is gone from everywhere
the memory
of man will fade to black
because the
ones that mattered didn't care.
