Another go, please - can I ride it again?
The finish line's coming too fast,
My life's been a waste and I've left it too late
To repay the sins of my past.
I've squandered my chances, I've ridden my luck,
I've thrown away love that was given,
Turned my back on my friends when they needed me most,
Down highways of greed I was driven.
Have I helped just one soul who was drowning in life?
No, the ego was always demanding,
Wealth was the master, I served it so well
Gaining kudos and high social standing.
I can understand now what one's life ought to be,
Every day should be ten out of ten,
Happiness cannot be bought with a coin,
The world should belong to all men.
Next time I would notice the dew on a rose,
And see all the might of the sea,
I'd ponder a snowflake and wish on a star,
And help suppressed men to be free.
I'd challenge the dragons of prejudice, hate,
And revulsion of those without stature,
Befriending the lepers and nursing the sick
Regardless of their nomenclature.
The light at the end of the tunnel comes near,
Far too late do these thoughts haunt my brain,
If life's ride is over, and I got it wrong -
Please, can I ride it again?
