The winds of change croon

their song across the sands

like sirens that beckon your dalliance.

But the Nile flows as ever

down the cataracts of Sudan

like the blood of your enemies

and demands haste from her Aggagier.

Fill your skins, oh Dervish

lest the Djinn at Abu-Deba

ignores your thirst and taints its teat

and you watch your camel

go mad in the sun's triumph

as you cast off your jibba

and dance to your death in the dunes.

Khartoum waves her goodbye

but do not look back

lest she tempt you to tarry

and her shade melts your purpose.

The pyramids await.

Look northwards

and ride to victory.
