HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE

a stonnet (a sonnet that tells a well-known story)

Back to Main Stonnets Index

Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed to see such fun
And the dish ran away with the spoon!

She didn't see the double-whammy coming,

a double diddle fiddled by a cat,

distracted by his superficial chumming

the cow was conned to be an acrobat.

Enticed to try some triple-somersaulting

she jumped as high as possible to please,

a new world record: Bovine Lunar Vaulting,

her landing pad a greenish pool of cheese.

The hound dog thought it all so astronomic,

a cow in outer space? What cheeky fun!

He laughed aloud to see a sight so comic

and wondered if she'd try and leap the sun.

While this was going on, the cutlery

teamed with the dish and ran away to sea.
