Embracing the sky
convinced that he
was destined to fly
a boy with an
eagle's eye
who lived his motto
to do or die.
They called him a
fool
a teenage dreamer
chastised at school
for challenging
every rule
enduring punishment
harsh and cruel.
The conflict began
his country needed
every man
to fly out and
fight Japan
he found a home in
the air force clan.
The weather was
rain
some men were
trapped on the eastern plain
so many lives to be
slain
ignoring orders he
fuelled his plane.
He made his attack
and flew right
through the worst of the flak
then heard a
splintering crack
the only one who
would not come back.
The prayers were
implored
an honor guard
saluted with sword
and cut the funeral
cord
saying farewell to
the boy who soared.
