Green Mile

Oh, please don't think I'd hesitate to kill you

should I possess the weapons and the motive,

or simply want another nice distraction -

and don't give me that "see what drugs do" look

Oh yes, I used six bullets in my fury

but I am calmer now - you ask the jury

I wonder how a box can turn in circles,

yet these four walls keep spinning like a dancer

a thousand years will not becalm my anger

my pen describes it all there in my book

I wish that I could cut the bile with honey

but publishers have principles: make money

Society demands it take my future

a switch will flick and still my guilty breathing

a lightning bolt of public retribution

will you join in the smiling as I cook?

You'll see me smiling as my eyeballs smolder

and watch it in your dreams as you grow older

A trudging walk, why hurry to what's waiting?

No Father, I cannot confess I'm sorry,

I'm ready for the answers to my questions

my life as payment for the one I took

I could have owned the world and all that's in it

she's dead, and I will follow in a minute
