GOANNA

From my CD "The Wizard of Auz"

(to the tune "Diana")

(a Goanna is a huge Australian lizard, up to 6 feet long)

I went down to my back fence for a walk

and then I heard all the parrots squawk

a danger signal just like native drums

I looked around and yep here he comes

the chooks all clucked and then ran a mile

this bloke was bigger than a crocodile

Oh Jeez - headin' for me - Goanna

He had a look as though he didn't care

I saw his tongue taste the scented air

I stood there watching him on frozen legs

he made a beeline for the chookhouse eggs

I made a run for my garden shed

and grabbed a gun he would soon be dead

Oh Jeez - straight up a tree - Goanna

Oh, they're clever, it's not strange

way up high he knows that he's out of range

but i thought well I'm smarter than you

I went and got a twenty-two so whoop de doo

Only luck could have hit that spot

lack of shooting skills is what I've got

I hit the dead branch way up in the tree

branch and goanna hurtled down on me

it knocked me cold and when I came to

he was laughin' at me, the chooks were too

Oh Jeez - what a tease - Goanna

Oh Jeez - Goanna
