wings of dragonflies
riding sorrow
across the pond we
skimmed
like there was no
tomorrow
on the bank a
three-ring circus
plied its
technicolor trade
we made ourselves
ill
on cotton candied
lemonade
kissing a colored
clown
with its ludicrous
grin
I ignored the dark
things
forebodings within
buying bargain
balloons
I soared oh so high
until I looked down
on a rainbow’d sky
a white horse then
beckoned
and I mounted piety
we sung out our
hymns
to a wheezing
calliope
from a fraying
trapeze
I fluttered and
flew
then a fat lady
sung
and I tried to find
you
but the crowd had
all gone
there was nothing
to see
three rings, an old
rope,
some sawdust – and
me...
