DOUSE the DRAGON

Douse the dragon wandered slowly down the forest track. He had a problem and needed to talk to somebody about it.

“Hi, Douse” said Pamela Possum “What’s up?”

“Yo, Pamela “replied Douse “Everything’s cool!” He grimaced as he realized how true his words were. You see, his problem was that he couldn’t breathe fire any more!

He kept walking. Pamela was one of his best friends, but he didn’t feel like sharing his terrible secret with a possum, especially a girl possum.

Trevor was under the bridge, as trolls usually are.

“Douse, my man” said the troll “What’s goin’ down?”

Douse sat down at the side of the bridge and told Trevor of his problem.

“Woah” said Trevor This could be serious! How long has this been going on, Douse?”

“Oh, a while now. I just didn’t realize that it was gone for good, I thought it was a cold, or something.” Douse hung his head forlornly. A sad dragon is indeed a sad thing to see.

“Hey, don’t feel so down, dude…a lot of us can’t breathe fire, you know!”

“Yeah, I know, but I’m a dragon! What good am I if I can’t do what other dragons do?”

As Trevor pondered this, a scream came from the forest track, and they both looked up to see Pamela Possum running quickly towards them.

“Help!” she screamed, “Help me!”

Then they saw the wolf chasing her, his cruel jaws open and drooling as he gradually caught up with her.

“Do something, Trevor!” yelled Douse.

“Hey man, I’m a troll, not a hero!” he replied sheepishly.

Douse watched as Pamela headed towards the bridge, the vicious wolf right behind her. The wolf’s jaws bit savagely, and missed her by inches. The next time would be the last.

Something inside Douse snapped and he jumped out onto the track. As Pamela ran beneath him he let fire with a flame that a volcano would be proud of! The fire hit the wolf mid-stride, and the howls of pain could be heard all over the forest as the wolf went running as fast as he could.

Pamela gave Douse a huge hug.

“Thanks, Douse! You’re a great dragon, and a great friend!”

Douse looked over at Trevor.

“I think we can all breathe fire,” said Trevor the Troll. “We just need a good enough reason to do it!”
