 REDDIT ME:

Dear Daughter. A family poem by Australian poet Graeme King - funny poems, sad poems, serious poems and romantic poems. Poems for children, nature poems and environment poems, flash poetry, fantasy poems, funny limericks and more ©kingpoetry2007.

DEAR DAUGHTER

I wrote this family poem in the form of a decasyllable - ten lines, ten syllables per line. It shows the vagaries of modern fatherhood.

Dressed up as a lamb led to the slaughter,

Pay no heed to what I tried to teach you,

Go ahead and live as Satan's daughter,

Leave a tiny light on, I beseech you.

Burning bridges falling in the water,

Tightrope wires are stretching out to reach you,

Loose your poisoned darts and give no quarter,

Massacre the loved ones who impeach you.

One day you'll remember what I gave you,

Maybe when you need someone to save you.
