Little Boy Blue - a funny poem by Australian writer Graeme King - the nursery rhyme Little Boy Blue in a funny sonnet ©kingpoetry2007.

Little Boy Blue

a stonnet (a sonnet that tells a well-known story)

Back to Main Stonnets Index

Little Boy Blue come blow your horn,
The sheep's in the meadow the cow's in the corn.
But where's the boy who looks after the sheep?
He's under a haystack fast asleep.

Boy Blue had disappeared, and in dismay

the farmer was all teary and forlorn,

"I'm sick of this - I'll have to dock your pay,

I wish I'd learned to blow that bloody horn!

"I bet you went to Paddy's Bar last night,

the talent show was on - that "Idol" thing,

you won - got drunk - then got into a fight,

I've said it many times: you sure can sing!

"That doesn't help my wheat, or save my corn,

the sheep and cows are thinking they've been blessed,

they've had a banquet since the early morn,

and all because of some dumb talent quest!"

Alas, he spoke a monologue that day,

the Boy was fast asleep there, in the hay.
