I drank a
pint of billy tea, applauded by a crow,
a dragonfly
attacked my fishing rod,
the sun
shone through its wings and formed an iridescent bow,
it must have
been a hello note from God.
My craven
friend decided I had nothing I would share,
and left me
to my introspective fate,
the hum of
insect song returned and serenaded air,
in hope of
drawing out a willing mate.
The fire had
died and tiny eddied winds disturbed the ash,
they skipped
and spun around in grayish swirls,
a gum nut
took the high dive and it landed with a splash,
to send out
waves like rings of dancing girls.
I watched a
kookaburra bring its hunting skills to bear,
a
masterpiece of nature's constant fight,
its belly
full, it sent a peal of laughter to the air,
to tell the
world that everything was right.
A
frill-necked lizard showed me how to stalk a butterfly,
to wait
until the time was right to win,
I thought
about my failures then dismissed them with a sigh,
this day was
not the time to look within.
As sun
dipped into hazy hills, I told the pond so long,
an eagle
watched my progress from the blue,
I wished him
luck, then turned and waved goodbye to Billabong,
the gum
trees seemed to wave a goodbye too.
