The clouds dance an
apology,
and shadows
play tag across my
cheek
as a chill breeze
entices
the leaves to jump.
Stashing summer in a
suitcase,
I rummage through
winter's forgotten
woolens,
as goose bumps
remind me
of the days to come.
Cracks in memory's
walls
allow the wind
to tease me with
stories
of snowmen, skates,
warm cider
and glowing
fireplaces.
Vowing to be brave
and spend time
outdoors,
I find an old
favorite jacket,
and wish that I'd
been less eager
to give my sled
away.
Windows creak
disapproval
as I shut myself in
and prepare to
hibernate,
despite promising
the sun
that I wouldn't be a
stranger.
