 REDDIT ME:

Adage - a dark love poem by Australian poet Graeme King - showing the hate that can fester when love turns bad ©kingpoetry2008.

ADAGE

If looks could kill I'd bury you tomorrow

your heart would stop at dawn and time would cease

my tears convincing all of heartfelt sorrow

while in my soul a legacy of peace.

If walls could talk I'd ask them for their secrets

and write them on a yellowed ancient scroll

then hide it in a vault with bible pamphlets

to use at Armageddon - save my soul.

If life is what you make it mine's an ointment

that tries each day to cover up the scar

and heal the bitter sting of disappointment

as days turn into years yet here we are.

If erring's only human I'm immortal

a God to sit atop Olympus' height

mistakes I've made would make the Heavens chortle

I wonder why I say my prayers at night.

If time can heal all wounds then I'll be spot free

my soul and skin and heart will carry on

one day I do believe I'll win this lottery

my suffering will cease when you are gone.
