"Mighty Hawk! I love you! My life is
devoted
To you, to your wings and your majesty noted,
In books by the magii, their minds wise and narrow"
(Who would take heed of the voice of a sparrow?)
"Mighty Hawk! Could I fly with you over the land?
I could help if a small rabbit got out of hand;
Just imagine we two, soaring through the blue sky,
On the hunt, missing nothing with your watchful eye.
Mighty Hawk, I am small, but this I beseech you,
Let me hunt with you - there are things I might just teach you,
How to land on a small twig, steal peas from a barrow,"
(Who would take heed of the voice of a sparrow?)
"Mighty Eagle! I love you! I'd make it a habit
To learn night and day to knock over a rabbit,
To pounce upon mice, and pick up a hare,
I could help you transport them back up to your lair.
Your Majesty, I saw your head on the dollar,
I promise you I'd be your very best scholar,
Flying to heights that make other birds scary,
Pecking our booty back home in our aerie.
Please, for a little while, let me go with you,
I know there's lots of things that I could give you;"
(Eagles have no time for birds without marrow,
And who would take heed of the voice of a sparrow?)
"Hello Robin, hi Blackbird, hello Canary!
I've been up high, and boy! was it scary!
I was so scared, it was like a rebirth,
But I'm grateful that I'm again back down to earth.
It's terribly windy, way up that high,
The air pockets make it quite hard just to fly;"
An owl. sitting listening, perched on a harrow
Said: "An Eagle's an Eagle - A Sparrow's a Sparrow!"
